Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - April 21, 2023

Dear Friends,

Greetings to everyone reading our newsletter! I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and happy this week.

We have been burning the candle at both ends at the General Assembly this past week--early mornings, late nights, in order to make budget presentations next week. In between budget meetings, committee are ramping up with the increased bill activity we all are seeing. This work keeps me energized and reminds me how blessed I am to serve the residents of our area and NC.

You may have heard about a Senate bill in the news recently, SB 631 Fairness in Women's Sports. I would like to share more details on this bill in my Bills Spotlight section below. Read about SB 616 Environmental Health Associate in the same section.

Another bill that I am proud to be co-sponsoring is SB 625 Child, Welfare, Safety and Permanency Reforms. This bill will help children receive placement with families and individuals who want to welcome them in their homes.

In between committee and budget meetings. I enjoyed speaking with several business owners, professional groups and residents of district 30. I also had a great spontaneous connection with a school group of fourth graders from back home!

In more statewide news, the head of a prominent teachers' organization has dropped a lawsuit that was filed to oppose the Opportunity Scholarship that many NC families are grateful to have. This scholarship ties in with school choice, which is important for boosting parents' input into their child's education.

Congratulations to Sergeant Effinger of the Lexington Police Department for his recent recognition as the 2023 Lexington Area Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year! He has been a dedicated officer known for his leadership. Read more about his accomplishments below.

Another heads-up about roadwork in the area--NC DOT will be replacing a drainpipe and closing a local road. The roadway is listed below so you can find alternate routes to avoid any possible traffic back-ups.

Thomasville's local farmer's market is returning on Saturday! The market will take place on Saturdays until September 23rd. What a great way to see our local harvests, support the farms and products and celebrate Earth Day!

Denton is showcasing military vehicles and arms this weekend. The Aces in Action are sponsoring this event for two days. You can also take a ride in a helicopter, weather permitting!

Earth Day celebrations are in abundance this weekend throughout the area. Visit Bull City Ciderworks for a pack of seeds and socialize while painting a pot to grow your plant!

Davie County has some exciting events happening during the next week. I am featuring a few in case you are interested in joining. Please help support your local businesses with your presence and bring a friend!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
