Health Department Director rescinds resignation
By a vote of 4-3, the Davidson County Commissioners voted against assuming direct control of the Davidson County Board of Health at their meeting on Monday evening, April 24. Commissioners Fred McClure, Chris Elliott, Karen Watford and Matt Mizell voted in favor of keeping the Board as is. Commissioners Todd Yates, Steve Shell and James Shores were opposed.
A copy of the following letter was sent to Davidson Local shortly after the decision.
Madam Chair Troublefield and members of the Davidson County Board of Health,
During the April 6, 2023 Davidson County Board of Health meeting, you as a board unanimously voted to reject the resignation I tendered on March 31, 2023. Since that resignation, I have received phone calls, text messages, emails and had conversations regarding these decisions (resignation and rejection). The overwhelming support of you all, the staff at the Davidson County Health Department and our community has been unparalleled to anything I have experienced in my 16 years in public health.
With that in mind and the encouragement of the team here at the Health Department, I am submitting this letter to you to rescind the resignation and share my intention to continue as the Public Health Director for Davidson County.
Thank you so much for your support of this department's mission, of the staff who work day in and day out for our community, and of me as your health director. I will continue to work towards improvement of issues and concerns that have been unearthed during this entire process and am excited at the opportunity to continue this good work in the community.
With hope and inspiration for the future of public health in Davidson County,
Lillian Koontz
