Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - August 13, 2023
Dear Friends,
This week's newsletter concludes another relatively quiet week at the General Assembly! We had some friends the Davidson County GOP from district visit us for a tour of the General Assembly. We have high hopes to be back in full swing with some voting sessions next week. We will keep you updated with any movement next week.
Although budget progress is happening, details are scarce. I have provided what latest actions have occurred in my update below. All of the members are eager for its resolution!
The North Carolina Department of Insurance issued another press release from Commissioner Causey giving an update on negotiations being made with the N.C. Rate Bureau regarding automobile insurance rates. You can read the full press release below.
Speaking of motorized vehicles, August is Motorsports Awareness Month. Motorsports play a large part in the history of North Carolina, and our community as well! We have a fun list of stories and sites for you to check out to enrich your NC motorsport history.
Lexington County Schools has provided an update on their Clear Backpack Policy. The policy's goal is to increase safety and security within schools by regulating the types of backpacks and bags allowed on the school's premise. Find the press release below containing important updates and requirements.
Global manufacturer Avgol is expanding its Davie facility with a 63,000 square foot expansion. The new addition, along with the machinery that will be added as well, is expected to be operational by November of 2024. The project is also expected to create a substantial amount of jobs by the end of 2024.
Red's Donut Shop, house in downtown Lexington, will be adding a second shop. The new shop will be located in Welcome, across from Kimono's Restaurant. We can't wait for more of the community to have easier access to the Lexington staple!
The Davidson County Cooperative Extension, Davidson Soil & Water Conservation District, and USDA-NRCS has invited the public to go on the 2023 Davidson County Agriculture & Conservation Tour, happening on August 22nd. The tour will be limited to the first 60 people that call in and register to participate no later than Friday, August 18th. Find more details below.
In light of the listing of COVID as cause of death for other illnesses during the COVID-19 pandemic for many veterans, The VA will now take into consideration the service connected illness even if it is not listed on the death certificate to help surviving spouses receive Veteran Administration benefits.
Our office is reluctantly saying goodbye to our Summer Clerk, Kayla Grogan, this week. Kayla will be returning to school at NC State and continuing her studies on the way to her goal of attending law school. We will miss her wonderful smile, her sense of humor and her professional way of diving in to help the constituents in our district. Her light and energy will be truly missed!
