Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - February 10, 2023

Dear Friends,

I am saddened by the news of former Senator Jerry Tillman's passing this week. Senator Tillman, a Chatham County native, served his district of Randolph County for over 17 years. Senator Tillman's time spent serving in the General Assembly was remembered with condolences during our Senate session on Tuesday. Senator Tillman was a strong supporter of school choice and tax relief for NC citizens, and his wisdom will be missed.

In other news from the General Assembly, Session is picking up steam, with 329 bill actions already taking place. I have proudly sponsored and co-sponsored several bills in the Senate that I believe will improve North Carolinians' lives and livelihoods in a variety of ways. You may have heard a lot of news about the Parents' Bill of Rights, which passed in the Senate this week. Please check out my Press Release below for more information about why I supported this bill as it worked its way through the legislative process. Committees have been gathering for informative sessions this week as well, and their progress can be monitored by signing up for the Committee meeting Notices by clicking on this link.

I had the pleasure of meeting several members from our district while I was working in Raleigh this week. My meeting with Davidson County's workers was informative and thought-provoking. Back home, I was able to attend several meetings with professionals in the law enforcement community and a celebration with seniors in Thomasville. These meetings are vital for my continual desire to understand my constituents needs so that I can make progress enacting legislation for assistance.

Our office in Raleigh is looking for good help! The Internship program is still accepting applicants! We need a reliable and responsible student intern to assist with communication during this Session. I enjoy sharing the General Assembly experiences with college students that may be interested in political processes or creative marketing. If you know college students in the Raleigh area that may be interested in this exciting opportunity to network and learn, please follow this link for the application. This is a wonderful chance to connect with so many industry and government leaders. We can't wait to meet the right person for the job!

In other district news, DOT has announced several road maintenance projects in Davidson County. These projects will be to repair asphalt damage on 71 roadways, with Jim Bell Road being the first to undergo repairs. Be sure to read the article link below to stay updated with the schedules and affected roads.

The local area of my district is bustling with new businesses and job opportunities lately! I am featuring a profile of a new florist in Bermuda Run and highlighting a great job fair being offered by Novant Health in Lexington. Healthcare jobs are stable, well-paid and abundant, so please check out this event to find your next new role!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!

Senator Steve Jarvis,
NC District 30
