Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - July 21, 2023
Dear Friends,
While North Carolinians We are all patiently waiting for movement on the state budget, as is the rest of North Carolina. Unfortunately, we don't have much of a new update, as it is still being deliberated between Senate Pro Tem. Senator Berger and House Speaker Representative Moore.
Davidson County Law Enforcement has been working tirelessly in an effort to crackdown on unlawful street takeovers that have become more prominent throughout the community. These illegal street takeovers are not only dangers to participants, passengers, and onlookers, but also law enforcement personnel. In an effort to further mitigate the issue, I quickly drafted and successfully passed legislation that will crack down on anyone involved in these street takeovers. Read more below for more details.
In a plan to make DMV services more accessible, Commissioner Wayne Goodwin has initiated a program that brings DMV kiosks to grocery stores throughout North Carolina that will be open for longer hours during the day than the average DMV.
The Office of Digital Teaching and Learning recently announced that they will be holding NCBOLD Professional Learning sessions this summer. On July 27th, the session will be held at Oak Grove high School. Read more below for registration and information.
The Davidson and Davie Apprenticeship Consortium is celebrating their first class of graduates. These eight students successfully earned their journeyman certification through the apprenticeship program, which was originally formed in 2019.
Footbridge has partnered with Pinedale Christian Church to offer a free dental clinic for military veterans and active duty. Included in the service is a plus one guest of your choosing. The clinic will take place October 7th through the 8th. Read more below to learn how to make an appointment.
The Davidson County Animal Shelter is holding an adoption special. Adoptions on dogs and cats will are $15 if you donate a bag of dog or cat food. Read more below!
Our gem to explore in the Discovering the District is the Bald Mountain Trail. This area is located around High Rock Lake in southwestern Davidson County, and it remains a popular spot for rock climbers, hikers and nature lovers. Get outside this weekend!
