Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - July 29, 2022
July 29th, 2022
Dear Friends,
I hope everyone has had a wonderful week as we close out the month of July. So much has been happening in the district and in the legislature, so let's get into the newsletter!
Several schools in Davidson and Montgomery counties were awarded funding from the NC GO Grant program. This program provides funding for outdoor learning opportunities that we are so excited to see at work in our community.
North Carolina passed funding for new pregnancy centers all over the state in the State Budget. These centers are designed to help those in need in our communities to promote safety and security for families.
With recent spikes in gas prices and an increase in fuel efficient vehicles, the NCDOT has had to adjust its funding to the current times. Legislators have been brainstorming ways to help citizens maintain stability on the roads and at the gas pumps.
With a business boom in NC, tech companies what to move into the state at exponential rates. The demand for employees is struggling to be met by the supply, but the ratio is much better than it would be in most other states.
Legislators invested in NC Community Colleges to boost their apprenticeship programs in the latest State Budget Plan. These programs provide great work experience and hands on education for students who otherwise would not have those opportunities.
The State of the City 2022 of High Point address was held on High Point University's campus at the new Nido Qubein Conference Center. It was wonderful to hear what all is happening in the City of High Point and spend time on HPU's campus.
In an effort to make our schools safer, the General Assembly has been working toward bipartisan solutions to classroom safety issue. These solutions have been included in the 2022 State Budget.
As back to school season is around the corner, new school leadership has been finalized in our local school systems. I encourage everyone to see who may be new in leadership in your district!
As we remain in between long and short session, the General Assembly has been more of a laid back atmosphere than usual. Skeletal session is still to be held periodically but no votes are scheduled as of now.
If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.
I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
