Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - October 15, 2023
Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits. It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to our latest newsletter, a direct line of communication between us. I hope you enjoy reading about the latest developments in the General Assembly as well as important news about our district.
I know many of you have heard about the recent tragedy unfolding in Israel. There have been many horrible stories in the news. I strongly stand by the Israeli citizens as shown in my statement below. I am hopeful for a quick ending so that the suffering will end soon for the men, women and children in their homeplace.
The General Assembly voted to override five more of Gov. Cooper’s vetoes, putting measures into law that strengthen election integrity, expand nuclear energy, and cut government red tape. This is another big win for the people of North Carolina!
Not only did the Senate successfully override Governor Cooper's latest round of vetoes, we also passed a bill that I have spent considerable time sponsoring this session. SB 677 Surveyor's Right of Entry/Expedite Commercial Building has now become ratified and will ease plan review obstacles for builders, plus clarify surveyors' access on properties.
Richard Childress and Childress Vineyards hosted a wonderful event this week to support the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation. It was a beautiful night to promote hunting and conservation efforts. I enjoyed meeting new friends, seeing treasured partners and introducing my Legislative Assistant to the wonderful people in our district.
A road closure notice has gone out for you to be aware of. The road leading to the new Siemens Mobility facility will need to remain closed until next August while construction is ongoing.
In our district, a Fall Plant Sale in Lexington is the perfect opportunity to spruce up your yard or business. Fall is a great time for establishing plants due to the warm days and cool nights.
There is a festival, plus other outdoor events to choose from in our area this weekend. The Denton Street festival will offer plenty of good food and entertainment. You could check out the Tractor Pull in Clemmons for some excitement, too. I hope you choose one to enjoy with your families!
Lastly, as I mentioned, my Legislative Assistant who works in our Raleigh office came to visit the district this week. Many of you may have communicated with Tracey about various matters. She enjoyed meeting several of our residents during her time in town. Thank you for sharing our corner of the state with welcoming smiles. I know she loved the experience and can't wait to return!
If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at
(919) 733-5743.
I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
