Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - October 7, 2022

Dear Friends,

It has been a wonderful week at the legislature. Let's share what has happened this week:

Early Voting in Davidson County is starting soon! Voting opens on October 20th and will continue through November 5th. Stay informed and remember to get out and vote!

I attended the American Legislative Exchange Council Conference this week in Alabama, with keynote speaker Brooklyn Roberts. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet legislators from all over the county and learn from each other, as we prep to go back into session at the NCGA in January.

Legislative leaders sought to cement their ability to gerrymander their own districts without courts being able to strike them down, in arguments they made Tuesday to the N.C. Supreme Court. It focused solely on how much power state courts should have in the future to decide if the legislature violated the state constitution by engaging in partisan gerrymandering.

I am so proud of our Meals on Wheels program of Davidson County and their work in the community. Around 150 volunteers deliver almost 1,500 hot meals every week in Davidson County. We are always looking for more volunteers, so please look into this wonderful community service program!

This Saturday, October 8th, is Pink Day in Thomasville! The Pink Day event will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at BL Makers Market, which features hundreds of products and merchandise made in America by Americans. The store is located at 12 E. Guilford St. in Thomasville. All profits made from the sale of items on this day will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness funds.

Piedmont Fresh brings locally grown and produced food to consumers in a cost-effective manner on a weekly basis. This service makes it possible for farmers to work together, scale their farms responsibly and meet the growing demand for local, sustainable food in the Piedmont area. They are a program of Davidson County Local Food Network.

We are updating our 10 year Park Facility Master Plan and we need your input! Stop by the Robbins Recreation Center on Tuesday, October 11th from 5:30 - 6:30 to give your feedback and to help establish the vision for future park development in Lexington for the next 10 years.

This weekend, North Carolina Back the Blue is hosting two events in Senate District 29.We look forward to seeing everyone at the 3rd annual Bikers Behind the Blue charity ride or the Montgomery County First Responders Appreciation and Community Event this weekend!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
