Political Opinion: From the desk of state senator Steve Jarvis
Dear Friends,
I hope that your work week has been productive, your health has been well and your families are happy. I have enjoyed working in the district since the Long Session has adjourned. I have been able to dive back into my business projects and wrap up loose ends that came unraveled during our legislative work in Raleigh.
Our newsletter is arriving to you on the day before Veteran's Day, which happens to be the birthday of the U.S. Marines as well! North Carolina is honoring veterans on Friday, with all state employees having the day off. Our nation recognizes Veteran's Day on November 11th to signify the importance of veterans' contributions to our country. I hope you enjoy reading about the history of Veteran's Day.
We just finalized municipal elections in our area. Congratulations to all of the candidates and winners! There has been much talk in the news about campaign announcements for 2024, so I thought it would be helpful to provide a list of candidates for the Council of State in NC.
Saturday will be a day full of patriotic pride in Davidson and Davie County. Many towns and organizations are honoring Veterans Day. I look forward to attending these events every year. This year we are also honoring Lt. General Robert Sink with an historic marker in Lexington. I hope to see you there!
Every year, the South Davidson Family Resource Center and the Denton library team up to provide an opportunity to help a senior citizen. If you know of a senior who needs help, please consider signing him or her up. If you are in a position to help a senior, visit the library's Giving Tree and select someone to care for.
Plan to wear a coat again when you head out the veterans' activities. Due to a global weather pattern called El Nino, we may be experiencing more cold days once winter truly arrives. Weather experts have been making predictions about our potential for snow already! We may see more snow than we saw last year--possibly more than 6 inches for the season.
I have brought back the Discovering the District feature this week. This weekend would be the perfect chance for a brisk walk in the woods. If you haven't spent time in the Uwharrie National Forest, you're missing a local gem.
Holt's Picnic Area is just across the county line. Pack a lunch, take your camera and stretch your legs in the crisp air.
If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.
I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
