Davidson County’s District 22 B courtroom has been named in honor of Judge Mark Klass. The judge was celebrated by family, friends and colleagues.

Klass is a judge for Judicial District 22B of the North Carolina 4th Superior Court Division. He assumed office on January 1, 2019. His current term ends on December 31, 2022.

He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned his law degree at Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. In 1986, Klass worked as an assistant district attorney under Butch Zimmerman. A year later, he joined his father’s law practice.

Klass is the senior resident superior court judge for the 22B Judicial District of the Sixth Division of the Superior Court in North Carolina. He was first elected to the bench in 1998.

In 2018, the North Carolina General Assembly passed House Bill 717, revising the state superior court. Klass' seat on the Sixth Division was absorbed into the Fourth Division.

The North Carolina Superior Courts are split into five divisions and 48 districts. Superior court judges rotate among the districts within their division every six months. However, superior court judges are elected by voters in their district and must reside in the district in which they are elected.

In previous statements to the media, Klass has praised educational and familial influences. ”Campbell University did an excellent job in teaching me how to be a professional lawyer. I was provided the foundation and skills necessary to be a successful general practitioner for twelve years. I was able to take these skills and apply them to my current position of Superior Court Judge.” Klass also credits his success to his family. He says his biggest influences came from his grandparents, who were all “hard-working people.”
