Experts call the “Summer Slide” the tendency for students to lose some of the reaching achievements made during the previous school year. Some estimates say, “it costs the educational system more than $1,500 per student to reteach materials. Over the course of a K-12 education, that can equate to more than $18,000 per student.”
The Thomasville Public Library decided to create a summer slide of its own this weekend.
Thomasville Public Library. Staff and volunteers kicked off Summer Reading, in style, with activities this weekend. The kickoff party included a water slide and a dunk tank that included Library staff.
Games, snacks and fun educational activities can quench the thirsts of young readers.
For adult readers…this week the library will close the semi-annual book sale including newly restocked. They write, “You won't find prices like these anywhere else around. Come in and take a look at all the books, movies, audiobooks, music, magazines, and graphic novels we have for sale!”
A one-day bag sale has been announced for Monday only:
The group writes, “Come by the Library book sale for your last chance to take home some treasures. For $5 you get a Library tote bag (while supplies last) plus all the books you can fit inside it! You won't find a better book deal around—except your free Library card, of course. Hurry in as supplies are limited; the deal only lasts until they're gone!”
