Red Donut Shop claims unofficial world record, reveals business expansion

The red carpet was rolled out and local celebrities were in abundance Tuesday evening at Red Donut Shop in Uptown Lexington. The occasion? Well, it was two-fold. Brothers Saro and David Vay, owners of the business, had a surprise for attendees when they arrived: a shiny, new donut trailer that will begin making its rounds this week to bring their homemade donuts to the masses.

Inside, those in attendance were treated to vegetables, crackers, meats, cheeses, beverages and donuts, of course. After red carpet photos were taken and people had a chance to mingle, the other big announcement was revealed: Red Donut Shop launched a donut into space on March 16, 2023 in hopes of breaking a world record - an idea brought to Saro by Landon Grant. The NASA like event was documented for video which was shown to guests.

The sweets providers were successful in their mission (for now the record isn’t official) with the donut traveling as 110,00 feet into the air. They even managed to recover the balloon and donut 15 miles outside of Ft. Bragg. The balloon was shredded. However, the donut was intact until it was eaten by the crew.

The donut trailer will make its first appearance on Saturday at a soccer tournament in Denton. To inquire about having the trailer at an event, contact the shop at (336)300-7280.
