Salvation Army leaders receive new appointments

LEXINGTON - Moving to a new appointment is a way of life for Salvation Army officers. As dedicated pastors and leaders, Salvation Army officers serve wherever their skills are needed. The average appointment for a Salvation Army officer is 3-5 years, so when the Davidson County Salvation Army officers Lt. Wayne and Captain Claudia Meads received a call from Salvation Army leadership saying they were selected to serve as the pastors at the Salvation Army of Rocky Mount, they were not surprised. The Meads’ served Davidson County for 4 years. The Meads’ last day of service to The Salvation Army of Davidson County is Sunday, June 20th, 2021.

“We know that God has solid plans for The Salvation Army in Davidson County and are grateful that we were appointed here,” said Lt. Meads of The Salvation Army. “While we look forward to what God has in store for us in Rocky Mount, we will deeply miss our friends and partners in Davidson County. We have been blessed to work among people truly dedicated to serving others.”

Wayne and Claudia Meads, Wayne a native North Carolinian and Claudia from Brazil, were introduced to each other while Wayne was still a cadet at the Salvation Army’s training college in Atlanta Georgia. He was commissioned (ordained) as Salvation Army officers in 2017 and accepted Davidson County as their first official appointment in the Army. Together this couple has a wonderful ministry, and they are passionate about the mission of the Salvation Army. They were also blessed with the birth of their first son, Micah Meads, in October 2019 and are expecting their second child, daughter Lilah Meads, in October 2021. They love spending their spare time at the beach with family and friends.

To honor their time and dedication to the work of the Salvation Army of Davidson County, a farewell social will be held for The Meads on Wednesday, June 16th from 4:30pm-5:30pm at Sapona Country Club. The community is invited to attend this drop in event to help us as we say goodbye to this wonderful couple.

The Salvation Army will receive its new officers, Majors Ray and Whitney Morton, in late June. They bring more than 20 years of experience to Davidson County, hailing from their most recent appointment in Tupelo, Mississippi.
