Sunday’s Brinkley Bash to kick off 2022-23 STORM basketball season

THOMASVILLE, NC -- Brinkley Gym will be reverberating once again with the energy of STORM Basketball as the “Brinkley Bash” heralds the start of the 2022-23 season. The 5:00 p.m. event on Sunday, October 2 is free and open to the public.

Current and former players, families, and STORM supporters are expected to attend. Community members may want to arrive by 4:30 to find a seat. The schedule for the Bash includes a ring ceremony for last year’s Final Four team, a scrimmage, and dunk and 3-point contests.

STORM men’s basketball is coming off a second season in which it finished as NJCAA National Runner Up following the national tournament in Danville, IL. Over the last 15 years, the STORM has posted a 396-80 overall record, including 226 wins at home and nine All-American players.

The STORM has released its 2022-23 schedule, which includes a return to Chapel Hill to play UNC’s JV team on February 1. Schedule highlights: 

  • Saturday, November 5 – D1 Denmark Tech at Brinkley Gym (3:00 p.m.)

  • Tuesday, November 22 – Wake Tech at Brinkley Gym (7:00 p.m.)

  • Sunday, January 1 – STORM at Sandhills (3:00 p.m.)

  • Thursday, January 26 – Fayetteville Tech at Brinkley Gym (7:00 p.m.)

  • Wednesday, February 1 – STORM at UNC JV (Smith Center at 3:45 pm)

  • Wednesday, February 15 – Louisburg College at Brinkley Gym (7:00 p.m.)

  • Friday, March 3 – Sunday, March 5 – Regional Tournament at Cape Fear

  • Tuesday, March 21 – Saturday, March 25 – NJCAA D2 National Tournament in Danville, IL
