The Arc selected for Dept. of Labor initiative

Lexington –The Arc of Davidson County, Inc. has been selected for participation in the National Expansion of Employment Opportunities Network (NEON) by The Arc of the US. The Arc of Davidson County will be provided with technical assistance to increase competitive integrated employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“People with intellectual and developmental disabilities want careers earning a competitive wage,” said Executive Director Teresa McKeon. “Being a valued member of a community is as powerful a motivator as is economic self-sufficiency.” As one of five national provider organizations chosen for this new initiative through the Office of Disability Employment Policy with the US Department of Labor, The Arc of the US selected 15 chapters from across the country.  NEON pairs selected providers with a subject matter expert, offering technical assistance over a nine-month period. According to Office of Disability Employment Policy, the goal is “to develop strategic plans for increasing competitive Integrated Employment opportunities for individuals, including those with significant disabilities and those who have faced barriers to employment.”

McKeon states, “Currently, 20 people we support are actively working, while others are seeking employment or engaged in pre-employment activities. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to enhance our already strong and growing employment departments.”

The Arc of Davidson County, Inc. is committed to securing for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunities to choose and realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work and play.
