The Scoop: Charlie's Champions help families surviving childhood cancer
Golf is a game that can be challenging in the best weather conditions. So, it was quite the surprise to see Lexington Golf Course full of golfers on Friday since the weather was rainy and nasty. Charlie’s Champions held a huge fundraiser and golfers in all skill sets were in attendance. Charlie’s champions is a foundation named after Charlie Ward.
The foundation was founded in 2021 in an effort to help families with children fighting childhood cancer. Charlie was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He is currently receiving treatment. Charlie wasn’t there Friday but 5-year-old Pearl Monroe Tucker, best known as Roe Roe, was there along with her sister, Carson Perry, and their famous lemonade stand. Tucker was diagnosed with the same cancer as Charlie. There were a lot of corporate and local sponsors to help make this event a success. According to Brad Shoaf, the foundation has been able to help three to four families, already. If you would like to contribute in any way please visit www.charlieschampions.org or find them on Facebook.
To raise more money for the families of children battling cancer, Charlie’s Champions has an online silent auction coming up November 1st – November 14th. If you have any items that you can donate for the auction, please send an email to info@charlieschampions.org.
