Wreaths Across America begins local campaign

Wreaths Across America begins local campaign

Lexington, NC, October 11, 2021—Dec. 18, will be National Wreaths Across America Day, with  coordinated wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than  2,000 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

Davidson County’s Leonard’s Creek Chapter, National Daughters of the American Revolution,  has launched a fundraising campaign to carry out the organization’s mission to remember,  honor and teach. The campaign involves asking the public to purchase wreaths to be placed on graves of local veterans.

The coordinated effort will enable Leonard’s Creek Chapter NSDAR to place live evergreen  wreaths on the final resting places of veterans at the historic Pilgrim Reformed Church at 797  Pilgrim Church Road in Davidson County. Pilgrim Reformed Church had its beginning in the  Dutch settlement on Abbotts Creek. Originally it served both German Reformed and Lutheran  settlers.

The NSDAR Chapter takes its name from a creek that runs through the area. Some chapter  members have American Revolutionary patriots from their family lineage who are buried in the  church cemetery. Gravesites of veterans throughout the generations since the Revolutionary  War and representing all branches of the military are located there. Many are long deceased  and have no family to honor their service to America.

The chapter’s goal for Pilgrim Reformed Church is to raise enough funds to place 100 veterans’  wreaths on the headstones of the local heroes laid to rest there, to ensure that the individuals  who served to protect the freedoms of our country will never be forgotten and to bring the  community together in patriotic commemoration. Wreathes are $15 and may be purchased by  contacting a chapter member or by visiting https://wreathsacrossamerica.org/NC0368P. Specific graves may be requested using the online  order form. Additional wreaths to be placed on graves in other cemeteries may be ordered and picked up the day of the event. A portion of the proceeds will go to Leonard’s Creek Chapter to  support their ongoing educational outreach and programs to assist and honor veterans.

Leonard’s Creek Chapter NSDAR invites those who wish to pay homage to veterans to sponsor a  veterans’ wreath or donate to the fundraiser to ensure all veterans buried at the Pilgrim  Reformed Church cemetery receive a live wreath at the ceremony to be held at noon Saturday,  Dec. 18. The public is invited to attend.
