These Davidson County parks are ready for visitors

With the United States still dealing with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Americans are searching for slivers of hope. Winter brought with it countless days of rain, snowstorms, and canceled events.

Now that the cold months are making room for months of sunshine, bright flowers, green grass, insect emergence, more hours of sunlight, and warmer weather, the itch to get outside and enjoy nature is intensifying.

In Davidson County, outdoor spaces are popular during this time of year. With eight parks strategically placed throughout the county and a recreation center campus, there are a plethora of options for citizens to enjoy as they work to maintain an optimum level of faith during this time.

Below are five parks that are worthy of a visit this Spring:

  1. W. Center St. Campus - 555-D W. Center St. Ext. Lexington

  • The campus is home to the Davidson County Parks and Recreation Department and the Senior Services Department. It features bocce courts, a multi-purpose field, a half mile walking trail, and a community garden. There are also meeting rooms and a gymnasium. Programs hosted at the campus include pickleball, men’s basketball games, youth volleyball and basketball games, and leisure programming (including table tennis, dance classes, and yoga). may/sept 8-8 october/april 8-5

  • Bombay Park - 250 Bombay Rd. Denton

  • Located in the southern part of the county, Bombay Park offerings an array of activities for the whole family. The park has a playground, picnic shelters, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, a baseball/softball field, pickle ball courts, a tennis court and a splash pad. The splash pad operates from 10:00am until 7:00pm.

  • Boone’s Cave Park - 3552 Boone’s Cave Rd. Lexington

  • This 100 acre park is situated in wester Davidson County. Offerings include a bike trail, disc golf, picnic shelters and tables, hiking trails, fishing and two primitive camping site. Canoe and kayak access is available as well. 46 of the acres are designated as a Natural Heritage Site. Hours are: November 1-April 30 9:00am until 5:00pm; May 1-September 18 8:00am-8:00pm and September 19-October 31 8:00am-7:00pm.

  • Lake Thom-A-Lex Park - 700 Yokley Rd. Lexington

  • This park boasts fishing, hiking, kayak rentals, picnic shelters, a playground, and a bait shop. Hours of operation are: November 1-March 31 8:00am-5:00pm; April-Labor Day 6:30am-8:30pm; Day after Labor Day-October 31 7:00am-6:30pm.

  • Hughes Park - 8500 E. Holly Grove Rd. Thomasville

  • Disc golf, batting cages, baseball/softball field, hiking, picnic shelters, a playground and a 1.25 mile walking trail are some of the amenities you will find at this park.
