Local cemetery considering pet burials
Holly Hill Memorial Park has an imaginative idea that could just be an excellent undertaking.
The pristine memorial park located in Thomasville, is considering the addition of a pet cemetery to their grounds.
All talks are still in the planning and review stages with the focus now on the regulations, logistics and legalities.
There are lots of details that surround this project which must first be cleared with the North Carolina Cemetery Commission. The North Carolina Cemetery Commission is responsible for the regulation and supervision of cemeteries, cemetery management organizations, cemetery sales organizations, cemetery brokers and individual pre-need cemetery sales people. The Commission is licensed under the laws of North Carolina.
Holly Hill Memorial Park has been in operation since 1947 and before the decision to accept pets is finalized, they feel that they must first consider the views of the individuals that have family members buried there.
The pet burial area in consideration, would be in a completely separate area from the current human burials. The separate area is a requirement according to North Carolina law.
The talks include adding features to the pet burial area such as a meditation space and a rainbow bridge.
Because of the deep bonds and connections that many share with their animal companions, the cemetery operators believe that having a dedicated space for pets could be a meaningful and innovative addition to the cemetery.
This would also be a special way to honor service animals including military and police K-9.
The staff at Holly Hills have their own pet named Holly that is a therapy and emotional support animal for the families that they serve. Holly, who just turned two this past December, is an adorable French Bulldog with a calm and cuddly personality.
Before moving forward with this idea, thoughts and comments are being accepted on their Facebook page. The cemetery is nowhere near a final decision.
