Obituary: Celebrating the life of Kenneth Lee Coleman

Kenneth Lee Coleman passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on September 25 th , 2022 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Ken was born on July 30 th , 1939, to Lucille and Foley Coleman in Winston Salem, NC and grew up in Dacotah Mill Village in Lexington. He graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1958 and remained a loyal Yellow Jacket his entire life. Following his graduation, Ken joined the Air Force where he served for four years.

Ken had a true entrepreneurial spirit, owning The Ice Cream Well, Coleman’s restaurant, and serving as a certified residential appraiser and building contractor. If you knew Ken however, his true pride was his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Coleman, his daughter, Anna Coleman Hayes (Jason), his three grandchildren, Candice Hayes-Lusk (Lynn), Coleman Hayes, and Emerson Hayes, and his great-granddaughter, Lucy Lusk. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ann Throckmorton.

Ken loved living in Lexington, NC. He loved eating at all the local restaurants and talking to his friends while doing so. His family truly believed he never met a stranger in his life, but if he did, those strangers quickly became friends.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 1 st , 2022, at 1:00 pm at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington (301 North Main Street). The family will receive friends immediately following the service and the celebration of life will continue at the home of Mary and Ken Coleman.
