On Thursday April 29th, members of the Emerging Leader’s Society, the Board of Directors, the United Way staff and community friends went to the home of Adam, Amber and Blake Shore.  Blake Shore is a cheerful, sweet 7-year-old who loves camping, the outdoors and quality time with family and friends.

Since birth, Blake has lived with a rare genetic condition called tuberous sclerosis, which causes him to experience frequent seizures and to develop benign tumors in his brain, heart and kidneys.

His parents, Amber and Adam Shore, have always been involved in their son's care. They are his biggest cheerleaders.

In 2019, the Shores were working with the Arc of Davidson County, a nonprofit that advocates with and for people with intellectual and developmental abilities and their families. The Arc recommended the Shores reach out to the Lexington Housing Community Development Corporation for budget counseling.  The Arc of Davidson County & Lexington Housing CDC are both United Way partner agencies.  LHCDC was able to build a ramp for Blake.  The United Way Emerging Leaders Society had planned to stain his ramp last spring when COVID hit.  We are excited that this spring we were able fulfill our promise and paint the ramp for Blake and his family.  Special THANK YOU to Food Lion on Winston Road in Lexington for bringing out drinks and snacks!
