Davidson County Commissioners declared October 2024, “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in Davidson County. Two events have been scheduled by Family Services of Davidson County as they continue the fight against domestic violence in our community.

The first is the Domestic Violence Vigil scheduled for Tuesday, October 1st at 7:00 p.m. at the fountain at Davidson Davie Community College (DDCC).

The event will bring awareness to domestic violence and will include a community candlelight vigil to shine a light on domestic violence and remember those we have lost to domestic violence in Davidson County.

The second event will be the Domestic Violence Simulation scheduled for Friday, October 18th at the Lexington Police Department Training Center located at 455 Lee Smith Road in Lexington. The simulation will include two time slots for participants, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The simulation will the question survivors always get asked, “why don’t you just leave?” This event is an immersive simulation that shows the struggles victims face when they decide to leave their abusive situation and have to start over.

Both of these events are open to the public for participation, observation and support. For more information or to participate, please contact Emma Lookabill at elookabill@fsdc.org.
