Update on fatal collision in Davidson County

On Thursday, October 31st, at approximately 7:37 a.m. the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Davidson County on NC 150 just North of Mt. Carmel Rd.

The Salisbury Police Department was attempting to stop a Red Mazda CX9 on October 30th at around 9:45 p.m. on Jake Alexander Blvd. in Salisbury. During the pursuit, the Salisbury Police Department terminated the chase on I-85 Northbound leading into Davidson County. The Red Mazda CX9 was the same vehicle from Salisbury Police Departments Pursuit. The Passenger of the Red Mazda CX9, Kayla Lynn Taylor, 33, of Concord, succumbed to her Injuries on scene.

During the investigation, Troopers were notified of two juveniles at Rowan Regional Hospital In Salisbury being treated for injuries that had possibly been involved in the pursuit. Salisbury PD, NCSBI and Troopers confirmed these two juveniles were in fact involved in this fatal collision.

The Driver, Kaiell Zachkery Thompkins, 17 of Salisbury was charged and was placed in a Juvenile holding facility in Concord.

During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately 3 hours. The NC State Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation and updates will be issued as further information becomes available.
