LCS announces school administrator changes

The Lexington City Schools Board of Education approved the promotion of Ms. Jihan Harvey to  the position of Principal of Pickett Elementary on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 effective July 1,  2021. Ms. Harvey has served Lexington City Schools in the capacity of an Assistant Principal at  Lexington Senior High School for the past 7 years. Prior to joining the Lexington City Schools  family, Ms. Harvey was employed with Winston Salem Forsyth County School System in the  capacities of a high school math teacher and teacher mentor respectively. Superintendent Dr.  Anitra Wells states, “Ms. Harvey has grown as a school leader over the past seven years and we  are looking forward to great things as she leads Pickett Elementary.”  

Ms. Harvey earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics from North Carolina Central  University in 2006, her Masters of Executive Leadership from Gardner Webb University where  she is currently working on her EdD in Executive Leadership). When Jihan is not serving  Lexington City Schools’ students and teachers, she enjoys being a member of Delta Sigma Theta  Sorority Incorporated with whom she serves the community through the creation of programs and  events. She also works closely with the undergraduate members of her sorority at Wake Forest  University as their primary chapter advisor, serving in her church in a leadership capacity  and spending time with her family and friends. Ms. Harvey has received a number of  service awards while working as chapter advisor and she was named district Assistant Principal of the Year at the beginning of the school year. Ms. Harvey is the second born of Alfred and  Alecia Harvey and has two sisters, which whom she is very close.  

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Anitra Wells has announced the transfer of Ms. Cathy  Misenhiemer to the Principal of South Lexington Developmental Center effective July 1, 2021.  Ms. Misenhiemer has served Lexington City Schools for 40 years as a teacher, assistant  principal, principal and most recently Director of Special Programs. 

Dr. Wells remarks, “Ms. Misenhiemer is an excellent administrator who has a great strength in  leading the staff for our severe and profound handicapped students. We look forward to seeing  the great things she regains leadership of the Developmental Learning Center.” 

Ms. Misenhiemer earned her undergraduate degree in Special Education from UNC-G, and both  her masters and education specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Appalachian State  University. Her hobbies include spending time with her family, most specifically her 4-year-old grandson, as they travel to a destination that always leads to the beach, her favorite place.
