Obituary

Gregory Tyrone McCandies Jr. was born on July 25, 1976 at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, to Gregory Cannon and Daisy McCandies. Known as “Tyrone” by most. He departed this life on November 18, 2023 with his loving wife by his side. 

 Tyrone grew up in Lexington, NC and graduated from Lexington Senior High in 1995. He then went on to Howard University where he joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc in the Spring of 1999, met his spouse-to-be Raven (Hunt), and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio Production. 

 Tyrone had a love of teaching and received a Master of Arts Degree in Education in 2014. He spent many years as a middle school Social Studies teacher and volunteer on the Largo High School Football coaching staff. His most recent teaching position was at Kettering Middle School in Upper Marlboro.

 Tyrone was blessed abundantly with the warmth and kindness of his loving Wife, Son, Mother, Father, Sisters and Brothers who he loved and adored. He is preceded in death by his Brother Antonio McCandies.

 Surviving to cherish in his memory is his wife Raven McCandies, son GregoryTyrone McCandies Ill, his father Gregory Cannon, his mother Daisy McCandies, father-in-law Douglas Hunt, 9 siblings: Volanda Partee, James McCandies, Desi McCandies, Lakenya Johnson, Kereema Dean, Kamau Dean and Shanaisha Cannon. 1 brother-in-law Christopher Partee. 3 sister-in-laws: Tommy McCandies,Holly Oliver and Lauren Hunt and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that will miss him dearly. 

The family is forever grateful to our family friend Brandon Bickerstaff, the Johns Hopkins Hospital Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology team, and the staff at the Hospice of the Chesapeake.
