Welcome our newest intern: Margot "Addie" Walser

Welcome our newest intern: Margot "Addie" Walser

My name is Margot Walser, but most people just call me Addie. I’m currently a sophomore at Lexington Senior High, and I’m excited to have this opportunity to work in a position at Davidson Local. I hope that by working here I can gain some new experience and skills, honing and improving myself throughout.

I’ve lived in Lexington my whole life, with its homely atmosphere becoming a constant comfort for me. When I was younger, I used to take it for granted, thinking Lexington too small and close-knit, yet as I’ve grown older, I’ve grown a deep affection and fondness for this town and the people in it. This has culminated in a devotion towards the betterment of myself and hopefully others, something that I work towards as a lifelong goal. As I work here, I hope to better myself and hopefully help others with the things I write, all throughout Davidson county.

When I first heard about this opportunity, my first thought was excitement and intrigue. I’ve always enjoyed writing as a hobby and even as schoolwork. I remember being young in elementary school and taking to my notebook every chance I could get, racing to record every thought and story that would come to mind. Writing has always felt almost like a comfort to me, something I could fall back on. I’m fortunate that I have the opportunity to have something I genuinely enjoy as a job, something I will enjoy and use as a learning experience. As I learnt more about this opportunity, it just felt more and more like something that I could genuinely and truly have a passion for.

Journalism has always been something that stayed in the back of my mind as a career option. Though it was never at the forefront of my mind nor my first decision it has always been something that I’ve been intrigued by. I believe that informing and educating people on certain matters and events are imperative to the betterment of society, and that journalism is a pioneering practice towards that goal.

As of late, something in the field of psychology has interested me as a career path. I’ve always been interested in the inner-workings of the human mind and psyche, what makes someone tick, per say. I feel that by understanding each other and by extension ourselves we can work towards positive development as a whole. Journalism and psychology almost go hand in hand, with both of them focusing on the analysis and recording of human events and activities, all with the goal of enhancing ourselves. Though there are significant differences in each career path, I feel as though by working at Davidson Local, I can significantly improve myself. Either by enhancing my writing skills, improving my working experience, or by simply helping me explore different potential career paths. Regardless of the possible positives of this experience, I am excited for the chance to contribute to something meaningful at Davidson Local.
