One-Stop Early voting locations announced

After a heated debate surrounding state-wide boundaries, Davidson County will see one of the most heavily contested series of local government races in more than decade. Lexington Ward maps were recently redrawn for Lexington city seats, also impacting school board elections. Officials said census data and community meetings with the Davidson County NAACP guided the process for new districts.

The Lexington Mayor race went uncontested for several terms but this year will bring change to the top spot. Today, March 4th is the final day of filing and three well-known local candidates have filled for the seat currently held by mayor Newell Clark. Clark has not formally announced his intentions, but colleagues and candidates say they entered the race with the understanding that Clark would not seek re-election.

There are currently multiple voting options for the municipal elections. They include early, absentee and election day voting. Some of the contests will be decided before November 3rd. Officials say it’s important to pay close attention to all voting deadlines.

More detail about all three are below:

Early Voting - Early voting will begin 17 days before the election on October 21 at the Davidson County Board of Elections (BOE) office in Lexington. Its located at 945 N. Main St., Lexington, NC 27292 at a the newly announced locations in Thomasville, Denton, Midway and Arcadia.

Absentee Voting - Anyone wishing to turn in an absentee ballot will need to mail in a request to the BOE 50 days before the election on September 14.

Election Day -  Municipal election day is November 3. Voting precincts will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

A list of candidates can be found here on the BOE website. In previous years, candidates' political affiliation has been listed. According to a BOE employee, this year no candidate filed with their political affiliation so it isn’t listed. The upcoming races are non-partisan.

Several organizations are collaborating to host information forums across the county. Davidson Local will share more information as those dates and times are released.
