Santa came early for a former Facility Logistic Services (FLS) employee. Thomasville native, Lelia Laws, was the lucky winner of a drawing for United Way’s $10,000 giveaway on Tuesday, December 14 at the Jerry Hunt Supercenter Showroom.

The drawing was part of the United Way of Davidson County’s annual campaign to celebrate those who donated their Caring Share, which equals one hour of pay for 12 months. Employees who gave their Caring Share were entered into a drawing for the $10,000 by Todd Hunt of Jerry Hunt Supercenter. In previous years, Hunt has donated a car to the campaign, but this year cold, hard cash was used as an incentive for folks to donate.

Laws called the donation a “Christmas Miracle.” She is currently out of work and lamented she had fallen on hard times. “My car has been at the shop and I couldn’t afford to get it out. I thought I was going to lose it.” She plans to use the funds for utilities, car repairs and Christmas gifts for her children.

Other prizes included a 75” flatscreen TV donated by FLS, a 36” Blackstone griddle donated by Lowe’s of Lexington, Elevated Wake Park– park passes and private lessons, Food Lion gift cards, Childress Vineyards – wine package, Hardware and Roses – upcycled chair, Evenbrooke Marketplace gift card.

Others received gift baskets from Uptown Lexington & Merchants – there were two gift baskets each with gift cards and goodies from Salon 506 AVEDA, Ravenwood Artisan Collective, Goose and the Monkey Brew House.

In wrapping up its campaign, United Way reported the TOP 7 Campaigns in the County INCREASED by a total of $156,554!

Congrats to Jerry Hunt Supercenter for crossing the six-figure line and being the number one Private Corporate Campaign in the County!!

United Way is still working toward the goal of $1,500,000 and “we are still digging deep to get as close as possible,” according to April Rich, campaign director. "Our community depends on the generosity of all to help provide services for all. THANK YOU so much for your support to the United Way of Davidson County," Rich offered. "Our community needs us now more than ever and you have certainly helped in a big way!"
