Obituary: Harriet LaPage Sink Haynes Onorato


Page Onorato, 85, of Lexington went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 19, 2023.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, January 25th at Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington with The Rev. Edward T. Kelaher officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the Church. Inurnment will be in the Church Columbarium at a later date.

Mrs. Onorato was born in Davidson County on February 1, 1937, to John David Sink and Harriet Perkins LaPage Sink. She attended elementary and high school in Lexington, where she participated in many activities and excelled academically. She attended Meredith College her freshman and sophomore years, then transferred to the University of Rhode Island.

She was a retired educator, having worked for the Davidson County School System and most recently at Southwest Elementary School. Mrs. Onorato was also an admired correspondent, having written a widely-read column many years for The Dispatch. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was a loving mother, and grandmother and great-grandmother, whose memory will be cherished forevermore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jonathan G. Haynes; her second husband, Walter “Tad” Onorato, Jr.; a son, Nathan Gray Haynes; her sister, Jane Kirksey Sink St. John; and a grandson, Benjamin Matthew Haynes.

Mrs. Onorato loved the coast, and always enjoyed time spent with family and friends at Green Hill, RI; Edisto Beach, SC and Southport, NC.
She loved a good book, The New York Times crossword puzzle, playing bridge with friends, and smiling at her victims while dominating at Jeopardy. She was a lifelong lover of the arts and enjoyed painting and playing piano. Always passionate about helping others, she volunteered with Pastor's Pantry and Meals on Wheels. During the Lexington Barbecue Festival, you could often find her working at the American Red Cross booth. She was an outstanding cook and storyteller, which always made for wonderful experiences with family and friends.

She adored her family, friends, students, Grace Episcopal Church and most things Lexington. Left to cherish her memory are her loving sons, Jonathan David Haynes (Tammy), Charles Martin Haynes, and John Oliver Haynes, II (Ashley); two grandsons, Jonathan David Haynes, II (Krystle), and Samuel Adam Haynes; five great-grandchildren, Madison, Benjamin, Hannah, Keira, and Jaxon; her dear cousin, Mary Howell Stoner DiCocco; her dear friends, Allison Vinson, Francis Garner and Bettina Gangi; and a host of other extended family and friends who loved her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pastor's Pantry at 307 N State St, Lexington, NC 27292.
