Davidson County Schools dismissed students an hour early on Tuesday due to the possibility of inclement weather.

Elementary schools released students at 1:35 p.m., while middle and high school students were dismissed at 2 p.m., according to a statement from the school district. All after-school activities were also canceled for the day.

Lexington City Schools and Thomasville City Schools remained open for the entire day but canceled all after-school activities due to potential precipitation.

Several parents expressed confusion on social media about the early release, commenting, "What weather?" in response to social media posts about the school closures.

According to the National Weather Service forecast issued at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, light snow is possible late Tuesday afternoon and into the evening, which may result in accumulations of half an inch or less. A cold weather advisory is in effect for Davidson County and surrounding areas through Wednesday, with overnight lows expected to be near zero degrees.

Due to the very cold air and ground temperatures, accumulation may lead to slick and hazardous travel conditions, as noted by the National Weather Service.
