Press Release:
Thomasville, NC – January 21, 2025 – The City of Thomasville is currently engaged in a water conservation effort as city crews work diligently to identify and address potential water issues caused by recent freezing temperatures. The city is prioritizing critical inspections and repairs to ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the water utility system.
As part of the response to the cold snap, city crews have already completed checks on all bridges with water utilities connected to them. Additionally, fire crews are surveying vacant buildings to identify any potential leaking water lines that may have been impacted by the freezing conditions. Police officers are patrolling streets to help canvas the area.
To further ensure the integrity of the water system, crews are also evaluating local creeks for any runoff that could signal a leak or other issues. Drone teams are deployed to survey large tracks of land, looking for signs of ponding or frozen water that could indicate spraying or discolored water, which are often indications of a potential leak.
Maintenance and construction crews are working around the clock to make necessary repairs and restore the water system to full functionality.
The City of Thomasville is asking the public to assist in this effort by reporting any observed water leaks or related issues. Residents and businesses are urged to contact the city immediately if they notice any unusual water behavior, such as discolored water, loss of water or signs of leaks, to ensure that all necessary repairs can be made as quickly as possible.
The City of Thomasville is working in accordance with its Code of Ordinances, which empowers the City to respond swiftly to water-related emergencies and take measures to conserve water resources during critical times.
