Cathy's Creative Corner: Flutterby to Butterfly to Fairy

Cathy's Creative Corner: Flutterby to Butterfly to Fairy

“How many graduating fairies do you think we’ll have this year?” asked Patience.

“I have no idea, but we need boo-coo of them,” replied Faith. “Everything is doused in negativity. Everywhere you turn, there’s turmoil. Everyone needs a helping hand just to make it through the day. I’ve never seen so much depression and anxiety in all my years of being a fairy!”

“It is heartbreaking,” Spirit admitted. “But that’s why we’re here. You know, to help lift people’s spirits and bring them a little hope.”

“I’m heading back down as soon as I get recharged,” stated Joy. “That last trip zapped all my energy.”

Patience, Faith, Spirit and Joy are all fairies that live in the third realm above earth.  Their assignments are to dust humans with qualities they may be lacking in their lives. The fairies descend with positive, cheerful attitudes but return solemn, sometimes questioning if they delivered enough.

The life of a fairy starts as a mere flutterby on the first realm. As jets and planes and angels pass through the clouds, sometimes the cloud is snipped and pieces of it begin to flutter down. It has no life and is tossed and tumbled around. Most flutterbys go unnoticed by adults. They’ve become familiar with seeing the floating cotton-like seeds of some poplar and cottonwood trees after the pods dry out and are released by the limbs. Children, on the other hand, chase down every floating thing their little hands can grasp! Luckily, they do catch more floating seeds than flutterbys. After a flutterby has been watched by the wind gods and is deemed sustainable, the breath of life is blown into it.  Thus it begins its journey as a butterfly.

Newly created butterflies are whisked away to the second realm. There they can grow and flourish into the beautiful creatures they are to become. They have time to perfect their flying skills before having to maneuver around people, animals and moving objects such as cars and trains.  Once the butterfly has mastered flying, it returns to the first realm to learn to interact with people.  The option is given to set one’s sights on becoming a fairy to help people or remaining a lovely butterfly to help keep the ecosystem on track. No one role is more important than the other. It’s the preference of the butterfly that matters. Like people state, “Everyone does not want to go to college.” In all likelihood, not every butterfly wants to be a fairy.

Graduation day is always the most exciting day of a flutterby’s existence! With no recollection of being a flutterby transforming into a butterfly, they are about to set out on the life journey of their choosing. The fairy graduates have studied mankind, observed the mentality of humans and assessed what godlike qualities are lacking in today’s world. The fairies choose their names from these qualities. There is no guest speaker at the ceremony. Instead, once the butterfly has transformed into the fairy, it reveals its name and how it was chosen. For the past couple of years, the world has been engulfed with every type of unkind behavior possible!  Hate, evil, cruelty, apathy have led to a society of people who are afraid, hopeless, withdrawn. Seemingly, this made the choosing of a name easier for this year’s class of fairies. They know exactly where they are needed.
