Column: Decorating your space for the Holiday Season should be an enjoyable time

Column: Decorating your space for the Holiday Season should be an enjoyable time

I usually draw inspiration to begin the festivities each year from numerous sources. Sometimes all it takes is being caught off guard in November by the radio playing Holiday music to put me in the Spirit. More often what definitely activates my inner Clark Griswold is seeing the sparkling Holiday Decor. I cherish the memories of my childhood traditions and I remember them with each of my senses. While these memories are the framework for many of my celebrations today I enjoy adding my own twist and changing my home decor and celebrations each year.

When it comes to decorating your own home or preparing to entertain, my first bit of advice is not to overthink it. Draw your inspiration from what makes you feel good. Here are a few ideas to spark the Spirit of celebration in each of you.

  • Think Outside of the Box- Take a style risk and do something different. Let one of your favorite items be your muse.

  • Go Monochromatic- Take your favorite color, be it a traditional Holiday color or not and go let that be your inspiration for everything.

  • Go Natural - We are fortunate to reside in a state that offers us so much to choose from outside in our own yards. Go foraging in the woods and choose moss, branches, cedar and berries to transform your space.

  • Repurpose- Take family items and make them into something new and beautiful. Like reusing old ornaments by displaying them in a large vase with spray painted twigs and branches.
