Davidson County resident receives superior Public Service Medal from the Secretary of the Army
Mrs. Jessica S. Miller has devoted over three decades to supporting soldiers and their families, becoming an indispensable pillar within the Logistics and Field Artillery communities. Since marrying a Logistician and Artilleryman in 1990, Mrs. Miller has made an immeasurable impact on the lives of countless soldiers and military families across multiple installations.
From her early work assisting with Hurricane Fran relief to establishing the Family Support Group for the 113th Field Artillery Regiment, Mrs. Miller’s leadership has ensured that soldiers and their families were consistently supported during times of need. As Family Support Coordinator, she fostered a culture of unity, communication, and care that became the foundation of battalion morale.
At Fort Sill, Mrs. Miller was instrumental in the Paladin New Equipment Training Team Family Support Group, raising over $30,000 and providing vital emotional support to soldiers and their families. Her outstanding service was formally recognized with the prestigious Superior Public Service Medal from the Secretary of the Army, an honor equivalent to the Legion of Merit, acknowledging her extraordinary contributions to the military community.
Even in the face of personal challenges—including surviving three different types of stage III cancer and other medical issues that would have hindered many—Mrs. Miller’s commitment to soldiers and their families remained unwavering. She continued to organize care packages, fundraisers, and holiday meals, often while undergoing treatment herself, demonstrating unparalleled strength and compassion.
In her own words, Mrs. Miller shared:
"It has never been about the awards or accolades; it has always been about the soldiers. Yet, as veterans' benefits are being cut, we are failing the very ones who signed that dotted line and offered everything—often including their lives. Having raised a family with a deployed husband, I know the struggle of holding down the home front. Our veterans deserve the same dedication and care they gave to us, but instead, we're seeing cuts that threaten their well-being. We must do better by those who made those sacrifices."
Mrs. Miller’s impact extends far beyond her role as a military spouse. Her ability to unite communities, provide emotional support, and serve selflessly has earned her the admiration and respect of all those she has encountered.
Mrs. Jessica S. Miller’s legacy of service, resilience, and love stands as a powerful testament to her dedication to soldiers, their families, and her country. Her extraordinary contributions will continue to inspire generations to come.
Previously, Mrs. Miller was awarded the Artillery Order of Molly Pitcher, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for her relentless dedication to the field artillery community, as well as the Catherine Greene Award, which recognizes significant contributions from Quartermaster spouses, presented at her husband, First Sergeant Dennis Miller’s retirement ceremony.
