DCS teacher selected as Kenan Fellow
Laurie McKinney, a science teacher at Oak Grove High School, has been selected for the Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership --Spurring Innovation in Manufacturing (Gaffney) -- with Cornerstone Building Brands. Laurie will intern with Cornerstone for three weeks this summer where she will explore the entire high-tech manufacturing process from research and development to production and technology, after which she will transfer her experience to a dynamic and engaging curriculum for her students.
The fellowship award includes a $5,000 stipend and 80 hours of professional development.
Founded in 2000 the Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership addresses a critical need for high-quality professional development for educators and is the largest (science, technology, engineering and math) STEM focused teacher leadership program in North Carolina.
A limited number outstanding K–12 teachers from across the state are selected annually for this year-long program sponsored by North Carolina State University’s Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology and Science.
