#DLYearInReview: Local Elections Matter
One thing there hasn’t been a shortage of is news regarding elections in 2021 and 2022. With the municipal election delayed in Lexington due to the data from Census 2020 arriving later than usual, confusion has consistently arisen regarding filing and election dates.
The first week of December brought more befuddlement as gerrymandering lawsuits caused the North Carolina Supreme Court to halt filings for all primaries which were scheduled to take place on March 8, 2022. They’ve been moved to May 17, 2022. Filing dates are unclear at this time.
Thomasville, Wallburg. Midway and Denton held their municipal elections on schedule in November. Since they don’t have a ward (district) system within their municipality, they weren’t required by law to await Census data.
