Community groups turning 'pain into purpose'
National Gun Violence Awareness Month is a time to draw attention to the tragic reality of gun violence in the United States. Several community groups impacted by Gun Violence are coming together to support gun violence survivors and prevention initiatives. The month of June was chosen because gun violence typically spikes at the start of the summer month. A Congressional resolution has designated June 3 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day and asked citizens and community leaders to give heightened attention to the issue.

The Big Chair
Honoring Dallas Redwine with a peaceful candlelight vigil to remember a young life taken too soon. We wanted to do this at the police department to show TPD and Davison County DA that we want justice to be served.
Police responded to the home around 11 a.m. According to the homeowner, a few friends had gathered for a birthday party, and people inside the home said that the teens were playing with a gun, resulting in a 14-year-old accidentally fired, hitting the 15-year-old boy.

Friday, June 2nd is National Gun Violence Awareness Day!
A part of JLD Scholarship Fund's mission is to raise awareness and join the fight against gun violence. We are excited to observe Gun Violence Awareness Month hosting our first annual signature event, the Community Against Gun Violence Block Party.
The purpose for this event is to bring communities across the Triad area together to:
Shed light on the impacts of gun violence on our local community
Educate on ways to resolve conflict in a healthy manner
Promote mental health
Provide practical tips on how we can help to keep our community safe
We do all of this with a passion for preventing black and brown young men from being on the giving or receiving end of gun violence.
The event will begin with a walk for gun violence awareness and culminate at the Breeden Insurance Amphitheater where we will have a full day of events planned. During this event attendees can expect to hear from various speakers including the Mayor of the City of Lexington, representatives from the Police Department, a licensed therapist who will discuss mental health and problem resolution and notable leaders in the community. They can also expect to hear positive messages from live performers, enjoyable sounds from a live DJ sure to keep the good vibes going and support a variety of local vendors and food trucks.
