Singing together is a great experience for people of all ages, but it’s especially important for younger singers. Participating in an ensemble allows not only for increased music literacy and critical thinking skills, but it also allows for students to gain confidence, develop team building skills and provides them with an opportunity to be a part of something that’s bigger than just themselves. Music is more than just a sensation for the ears, it's a sensation for the heart. It truly allows us to relate to one another and connect on a deeper level. Music helps us communicate across different languages and cultures, and express ourselves when everyday words fail.
Everyone deserves the chance to find their voice and help others to do the same, no matter their age. I believe students should use music as a means to go out into the world with confidence and a better sense for who they are and want to become. I believe students should use music as an avenue to become hard-workers, responsible citizens, caring and respectful, and open-minded and accepting.
