Heavy rains, possible local flooding coming Sunday into Monday
According to the National Weather Service, a strong storm front is coming up the eastern side of the country and is expected to bring heavy rain, possible thunderstorms and some localized flooding to Davidson County Sunday into early Monday morning.
The forecast for tonight, Saturday, remains clear. NWS says rain is likely to hold off until about 5 a.,m. Sunday, when the chance of rain rises to 60 percent.
By 7 a.m. Sunday, rain is expected to be fairly steady and heavy at times, with a high temperature for the day just shy of 50 degrees. Predictions are our area will get between one and two inches of rain, and wind out of the Northeast will be between “nine and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph,” which can bring tree limbs or tree tops down on power lines. As the night goes on, wind will move around to the north and gusts can go up to 30 mph.
Rain is expected to continue until about 4 a.m. when the front’s northern movement should push it out of our area.
The wind will continue Monday but the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 53 degrees.
Have a plan in place in case power goes out, and remember not to drive through flooded streets.
