Hospice of Davidson County recognizes National Hospice and Palliative Care Month

Hospice of Davidson County is joining thousands of hospices nationwide in celebrating the 2024 National Hospice and Palliative Care Month (HAPCM.)

Planning for the end-of-life is an important, and yet often avoided, conversation. Hospice of Davidson County has been accompanying community members on their end-of-life care journeys since 1985. Thousands of patients have spent their final months and weeks wherever they call home, surrounded by their family and loved ones, because of Hospice of Davidson County.

Hospice care is centered on a holistic approach recognizing each person’s unique situation and needs. Patient care plans are built by interdisciplinary teams with a focus on providing comfort. Alongside traditional medical staff, the integration of social workers, chaplains, and bereavement counselors on care teams ensure support is provided not only to the patient but also to the family and loved ones. Hospice staff both educate and equip patients’ loved ones to become capable caregivers, as well as provide emotional and spiritual support for up to a year after the patient passes. Hospice of Davidson County is an accredited, end-of-life healthcare provider. Thus far in 2024, over 830 individuals have received 24/7 medical care and pain management as patients of Hospice of Davidson County.

“We encourage our community members to take advantage of this opportunity to talk about advance care planning and end-of-life wishes,” said Laura Owen, CEO of Hospice of Davidson County. “These discussions can be uncomfortable, but having the courageous conversations now will benefit you and your loved ones in the future. At Hospice of Davidson County, we are honored to be entrusted with caring for our community at end- of-life, and to provide care for loved ones after they have experienced a loss.”

Hospice of Davidson County was recently presented with official proclamations from both the Lexington City Council and the Thomasville City Council in recognition of National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.
