The first selection of The Page-Turners is the novel, Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? by author, Crystal Smith Paul. The Page-Turners will host a meeting on Thursday, September 19th at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at Bull City Cider Works in Lexington. Attendees are encouraged to purchase the novel, read at least the first half of the novel and become very familiar with the details of each character for an insightful discussion.
Crystal Smith Paul is scheduled to return to Lexington on Sunday, November 10th at 2 p.m. for a special appearance at the Lexington Library Annex at an event sponsored by the Friends of the Lexington Library.
Paul last visited Lexington in 2023 as part of the Lexington Book Festival. During her visit she sat with Davidson Local Publisher, Antionette Kerr, where Paul revealed her deeply rooted connections to North Carolina and discussed the details of her novel including it’s fascinating main character, Kitty Karr.

Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? depicts origins as a two-sided tale. Paul explained that the themes are heavily correlated with her personal life, as the setting varies from place to place similar to her upbringing.
While speaking with Kerr, Paul discussed her transition from journalism to fictional story writing stating that, “Journalism didn’t give me the freedom that I desired to create. When I decided to pursue fiction, I could finally create stories without restraint.” In the conclusion of the interview, Kerr asked the author about the parts of her story that are fiction and those that are historical. Paul answered by stating “It is mostly fiction, but the historical part comes in with the peppering of real events of American History.” Did You Hear About Kitty Karr is a Reese’s Book Club pick.
