Last week Davidson Local began contacting Davidson County Schools employees regarding the suspension of North Davidson High School head football coach, Brian Flynn. We’ve previously spoken with Mark Hayes, NDHS athletic director who directed us to speak with Lawson. Questions were emailed to Lawson. We received answers from him via Tabitha Broadway, executive director of communications and strategic planning for DCS. His answers are below:

1.       What rules did Coach Flynn violate?  This is part of a personnel record and cannot be shared.

2.       Have any other football coaches been suspended?  If you mean related to this particular situation, the answer is no.

3.       When does/did the suspension go into effect? The suspension was effective August 8.

4.       Is Coach Flynn prohibited from attending practices and having contact with players? Yes

5.       Who will assume head coaching duties in his absence? ND adminstration and athletic director named Kevin Gleiser interim coach.

6.       Is there an ongoing investigation? If so, when do you expect it to be completed? The investigation was concluded with the suspension.

7.       I've heard the suspension was issued by Davidson County Schools. I've also heard it was issued by North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Which is correct? (Mark Hayes told me this was a joint suspension)  Mr. Hayes is correct.  The NCHSAA provides the governance for HS athletics.  When rules are violated and the school self-reports, the NCHSAA is consulted but the actual consequence is determined and delivered by the district.

Davidson Local will be following up with Lawson regarding his response to question number 2.
