Letters to the editor: Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #97 extends thanks
On behalf of the Davidson County Fraternal Order of Police(FOP) Lodge #97, the Executive Board would like to thank all the law enforcement officers who responded to the shooting incident in the Denton, NC area last Thursday and Friday, and kept a tragic incident from becoming worse.
Thanks to all the law enforcement agencies who responded to assist with this incident. We also want to thank all the law enforcement officers and all first responders who continue to risk their lives every day to make our communities safer.

Contributed Note From Law Enforcement: On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, around 9:08 pm, Davidson County Emergency Communications, received a 911 call in regards to a shooting that occurred at a residence in the Denton area of Davidson County, NC. While deputies from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and other emergency services personnel were responding to the scene, it was learned that shots had been fired into a dwelling striking an individual inside the residence.
Upon arrival, multiple units from the Davidson County Sheriff’s office encountered multiple rounds that were fired at deputies as they were setting up positions around the incident. One of those rounds injured a long-time deputy of the Davidson County SERT team. That officer was transported by Air Care to a local hospital where he received medical attention. Multiple agencies responded to assist with this incident including Denton PD, SHP Air Unit/patrol units, Lexington PD, Thomasville PD, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office SERT team, Charlotte Mecklenburg PD Air Unit, SBI, and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office SERT team. The suspect continued to fire multiple shots at officers as he attempted to elude officers by changing locations several times throughout the night. After several hours of continued negotiations and containment, the suspect was fatally wounded.
