Obituary: Metha White Fortune
June 21, 1941 - December 17, 2023
Metha A. White Fortune, 82, was born June 21, 1941 in Chatham, Virginia to the late Sam White and Hazel Bennett White. She passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.
She retired from Lexington Telephone Company. Metha was a member of Union Chapel AME Zion Church and served on the Usher board and was a Deaconess. She was a member of Golden Link #543 and Jack and Jill. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fortune was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Fortune; a daughter, Hope Fortune; a son, Stephon White; a sister, Nannie Owens and three brothers: Charlie Sam White, Joseph E. White and Willie A. White.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Travis (Carol) Fortune; two daughters, Jessica Y. Fortune and Carla D. Giles; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Percy (Audrey) White, Sr. and Doug White; three sisters: Clarissa Woodberry, Lousie White and Marian White and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with visitation an hour before the service. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Service.
