Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - April 22, 2022
Dear Friends,
As summer approaches us, my office is still working hard for our district to make sure we're prepared for the upcoming short session. I am humbled to serve in this capacity and thank you for allowing me this opportunity. Let's get right into this week's edition of The Raleigh Report:
This week I had the honor of working with Miss Lexington, Ava Katherine Socarras, who we're proudly partnering with to raise kidney disease awareness. My office and I have established a partnership with Miss Ava Katherine Socarras that will go well into the next few years as we're dedicated to helping our constituents become more aware about kidney disease.
Public officials across our state are bringing more attention to the staffing shortages that many of our nursing homes face.
Senate Leader Phil Berger toured N.C. A&T on Tuesday to discuss the important role that the college has played in our state. We are glad that North Carolina is home to a number of excellent institutions of higher learning.
On April 26th, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will be sponsoring a free pesticide collection event at the Davidson County Fairgrounds. See the article below for more details.
In more exciting news, the American Legislative Exchange Council has placed North Carolina in second place for economic outlook. N.C. Treasurer Folwell has cited the hard work of legislators to lower taxes and control state spending.
On the 25th, I will be presenting the Order of the Long Leaf Pine to Davidson local, Reverend Lamar Moore. Moore is responsible for the creation of the Davidson County Department of Senior Services and has done much work to protect our most vulnerable. We are fortunate to have many such dedicated individuals in our community.
The John Locke Foundation, a conservative think tank based in North Carolina, has proposed a legislative framework that would give parents more say over what their children are being taught in public schools.
The Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources met at the Asheboro Zoo to discuss many intriguing topics to see the progress made by previous investments by the legislature.
If you or someone you know is a high school sophomore, junior or senior, we encourage you to apply for Cooperative Leadership Camp this summer! It will be hosted at Camp Monroe in Laurel Hill, and the applications are linked below.
Today, Congressman Bishop and I met with the National Association of Home Builders to discuss key topics regarding the building community. Their Vice Chair, Buddy Hughes and Policy Director, Chris Mills shared great insight to the future of home building.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
