Political Opinion: From the desk of Sen. Jarvis' - February 5, 2022

Dear Friends,

It has been a productive week here in Raleigh and an eventful one. The Supreme Court has directed the General Assembly to redraw maps in a 4-3 decision.

"Democratic judges, lawyers, and activists have worked in concert to transform the Supreme Court into a policymaking body to impose their political ideas. On this and other cases soon to come before them, the justices 'interpret the Constitution to mean what it would have said if they, instead of the Founding Fathers, had written it,' in the words of former justice Sam Ervin, Jr." - Sen. Ralph Hise (R-Mitchell).

In other news, the NC Congressional delegation sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service in order to help address the nearly 6 million backlogged income tax returns in the IRS's system. It is crucial that the federal government resolves this matter quickly and I applaud our NC Congressional Delegation for demanding action.

February is Black History Month where our nation honors the triumphs and struggles of African-Americans throughout U.S. History. North Carolina has a Special Heritage regarding Black History Month as civil rights leaders like Clarence Henderson, a J. E. Broyhill Award winner, blazed the trail toward equality and continue to embody the principles of individualism that give the American idea its power.

NC Treasurer Dale Falwell is reminding all North Carolinians to check with the NC Department of the Treasurer to see if they have any unclaimed property in the State! February 1st was Unclaimed Property Day. Click here to see if you qualify and help North Carolina return money to your wallet.

Also this week I was able to attend the NC Agriculture Development Forum with Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler. Farming is an important industry in Davidson and Montgomery county bringing in millions of dollars of revenue to both our district and our state. I am thankful for our many great farmers that keep us fed by putting in the long hours and difficult work, we owe so much to you. No Farms, No Food!

As always, thank you to our numerous constituents who continue to write, call, or email our office.
