Press Release: Lexington Fire Department responds to fire at vacant house

At approximately 9:20 p.m. on October 14th, 2024, the Lexington Fire Department was dispatched to a Structure Fire at 274 Broad Street. During dispatch crews were advised by the City of Lexington Fire Marshal on the scene that the fire was in the basement and structure appeared vacant.

Crews arrived to find smoke pushing from the rear and sides of the house. Engine 3 was first arriving and began establishing an offensive attack. They made a lap around the residence to determine the extent of the fire’s spread.

A rapid-fire attack and search of the building limited the fire spread throughout the structure. Lexington Fire crews were successful in keeping the fire contained to the area of origin through two attack lines being deployed at the same time.

Crews performed extensive overhaul on the building to confirm no fire remained and no occupants were inside. The building was an abandoned home with no utilities, however other residences were in close proximity.

Assisting crews were Lexington Fire Marshals Office, West Lexington Fire, and Davidson County Emergency Medical Services was also on scene for medical standby for any possible injuries. No injuries were sustained by firefighters or civilians. Cause remains under investigation.
