Celebrate National Donut Day in Davidson County
What a better way to kick off an amazing weekend. It’s Friday and it’s also National Donut Day.
Held annually on the first Friday in June, National Donut Day is a sweet time to celebrate America’s heroes. The holiday was originally established to honor The Salvation Army’s service to soldiers during World War I.
Nearly 250 volunteers traveled overseas to provide emotional and spiritual support, sweet treats, clothes and supplies to troops. The “Donut Lassies” hand-delivered the fried confections to the front lines and are often credited with popularizing the donut in the United States when the troops returned home from war. “Now, more than ever, we could all use a little more hope,” said Major Ray Morton with The Salvation Army of Davidson County. “On National Donut Day, we’re continuing the century-old tradition of bringing comfort to our community.”
For the second year, The Salvation Army of Davidson County will celebrate with a moment of goodness in Davidson County by hosting a drop in breakfast and lunch for the community.
Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and lunch will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Dine in or to go options are both available. New this year is a local favorite, the Red Donut Shop Mobile Unit will be on site serving up hot fresh donuts.
