The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program kicks off

Lexington, NC — The Salvation Army’s 2021 Angel Tree program is officially kicking off November 1st. This year The Salvation Army of Davidson County has committed to providing gifts to 750 children and almost 300 families. This year we are excited to announce that we will be honoring Dr. Lloyd Lohr as our Honorary Christmas Chair of our Angel Tree Program for 2021. The Angel Tree Program provides new clothing and toys for children of families in need through the support of donors. To provide gifts for teens in our community we are continuing to partner, as we have for many years, with the Empty Stocking Fund.

Found in local companies and corporations, Angel Trees are decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age, and gender of a child. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. For people who would like to sponsor (adopt) an angel, Angel Trees will be around the community from November 1st through December 1st at 9 different locations throughout Davidson County;  Lexington Public Library, North Davidson Public Library, West Davidson Public Library, FUEL Tyro, Thomasville Public Library, BL Makers Market Thomasville, HIS Dwelling Place Thomasville and Nappa Auto Store Thomasville. For Angel Tree site details and to sponsor angels online you can visit www.salvationarmydavidsoncounty.org.

“This is so much greater than the Salvation Army; Christmas brings our entire community together,” said Major Whitney Morton of The Salvation Army of Davidson County.  “Every donated toy brings so much joy to children and their families across the area.  We are blessed to be part of a community that is willing to share that kind of joy with others.”

The Salvation Army of Davidson County is also looking for volunteers—individual and groups—to bring joy to children this Christmas season through the Angel Tree program. Opportunities range from sorting toys at the Angel Tree warehouse to assisting in the Angel Tree adoption process. Volunteer opportunities are December 6th to December 17th.

Businesses and community organizations that would like to adopt angels or volunteer at the Christmas distribution warehouse can contact Laura Sechrest at 336-481-7324 ext. 4 or laura.sechrest@uss.salvationarmy.org
