Tuesday: Roads impacted by Deputy Reudelhuber's funeral procession

In a letter addressed “Dear Community” The Davidson County Sheriff’s office announced that during the hours of 11 am - 1 pm on September 19th Deputy Auston Smith Reudelhuber's funeral procession will “encompass our roadways.”

Investigators say that William Benton, 24, of Lexington, was driving a box truck southbound on NC 150 while Deputy Auston Reudelhuber, 32, of Lexington, was driving a marked Forsyth County Sheriff patrol vehicle northbound on NC 150. The box truck went left of center and collided head-on with the patrol car.

A celebration of Auston's life will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Rich Fork Baptist Church where he attended.  A burial will follow in the Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will see friends on Monday from 3-8 pm at Wella Farm 368 Weldon Smith Rd., Lexington, NC  27295.

The following roadways that will be affected.

DCSO personnel will block the entrance onto 29/70 SB.

Belmont Road at I85 and S NC Highway 150 at I85 (2 exits)

Litwin Dr/Old 29 at 29/70

Shuler Road at 29/70

Evan Road at 29/70

Old Gboro at 29/70 (SB exit from college)

Gboro St Ext at 29/70

Brian Ln/Moose Lodge at 29/70

Central Heights at 29/70

Clearview at 29/70

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Sheriff II Auston Smith Reudelhuber joined the FCSO on March 29, 2021. Deputy Reudelhuber was assigned to the Field Services Division and Field Training Officer. Prior to his service with FSCSO Deputy Reudelhuber was employed by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office for over three years. He served in the United States Army for six years active duty and was currently serving as a reserve.

Deputy Reudelhuber was husband to Rachel Chrissley Reudelhuber and father to two young daughters, Addie and Raelyn.

DCSO writes, “We ask our community to remain peaceful during this time and honor our fallen hero as he is laid to rest. Thank you all for your understanding.”
